Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)

ESWT is a non- invasive treatment method to enhance soft tissue recovery, especially effective in enhancing healing for stubborn tendon injuries and plantar fasciitis.

Benefits of ESWT Physiotherapy

Shockwave therapy or extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is an innovative, cost-effective, evidence based treatment for resistant tendon pain (often known as tendinitis or tendinopathy). Extracorporeal means outside the body. The main benefit of shockwave are pain relief and restoration of function in certain conditions. Shockwave therapy is a safe non-invasive treatment with convincing evidence for its effectiveness from a large body of research and clinical trials. There are now multiple, randomised, double-blinded clinical trials that support the use of shockwave therapy for plantar fasciitis, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) and calcific tendinopathy of the shoulder. At our clinic we use a radial shockwave device which deliver acoustic energy through the skin to the injured part of the body. The shockwaves are mechanical and not electrical and work by increasing blood flow to the injured area, which accelerates the body’s healing process. The ESWT application lasts about 5 minutes to deliver and the research encourage 3-6 session depending on your chronicity. Please call us or get in touch via email (insert contact button) to discuss this treatment option.

Relief for Chronic Pain

If you live with chronic pain, ESWT is a highly effective option that provides significant pain relief. It does this by altering pain signals and gradually desensitising your nerve endings.

Regenerates Tissue

ESWT repairs tendons and ligaments, by stimulating the growth factors necessary for recovery. Scientifically speaking, it increases collagen synthesis and angiogenesis (the processes involved in tissue and cell formation).
